Tree-Planting Project with OroVerde
One question we get a lot:
“You make cosmetics – what does tree planting have to do with that?”
Our answer: A whole lot! 🌳✨

A recent study by ETH Zurich showed that reforestation is the most effective way to combat climate change. That’s why we’ve decided to support projects that help plant more trees – in Germany and around the world.

Trees mean life and hope for the future – each tree absorbs several tons of CO₂ over its lifetime and plays a major role in global climate protection.
Their canopy and roots help prevent soil erosion, they store water, and regulate the climate.
Tropical rainforests are also home to about two-thirds of all plant and animal species worldwide.

With the help of local tree nurseries, we support OroVerde’s reforestation programs in Guatemala, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, including:

• Building and operating tree nurseries
• Providing tree saplings
• Organizing planting events and ensuring the long-term care of young trees

Working hand in hand with local communities is crucial for long-term success.
Roughly one quarter of the world’s population depends directly or indirectly on forests.
In tropical regions, poverty is a key driver of deforestation.
Through reforestation programs, people rediscover the value of their forest as a vital resource.

In addition, agroforestry systems (combining native rainforest trees with coffee, cocoa, and fruit trees) offer sustainable, forest-friendly sources of income, helping secure food and livelihoods.

These mixed plantations, or “forest gardens”, grow at the edge of existing rainforests and create valuable new habitats for wildlife – while protecting the old forest at the same time. 🌿🦜

Local communities participate in planting efforts and care for the young trees both in the nurseries and in the planting areas. Since young saplings need special care during the first two years, locals make regular visits to remote reforestation plots, often by foot in hard-to-reach mountain areas.

Koala Week (January 10–17, 2020)
During Koala Week, we raised donations to support the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, following the devastating wildfires.

Thanks to your help, we were able to:

• Sponsor the rescue and care of injured koalas
• Support their rehabilitation and release into the wild
• Contribute to the restoration of their habitats
